RITA MILLS, owner of
The Book Connection, has three passions—the First
Amendment, books, and literacy.
It was in the early ‘70s that ink
took-up permanent residence in Rita’s blood with
her 20-year stint at a major metropolitan newspaper,
The Houston Post. In 1993, she shifted gears and moved
into another career direction when she joined the staff
of Arte Publico Press at the University of Houston as
Managing Editor. Rita was instrumental in the creation
of Arte Publico’s children’s picture book
imprint, Pinata Books. Learn
